My version of a con report

Warning, the below is ridden with anecdotes, so those of you prone to shouting it out at awards ceremonies can bugrorf and not read it. Otherwise, a report of my second ever con. Or at least the games I played

Another note: I never had any problems with Orgs, but then I dealt with them sunday twice, and that was it. *shrugs* So no mentions of them, other than a thanks for organising it.

Sunday
Rememberance: My first game of the con, that I joined because I had nothing to do first session. A SLA Industries game, by Shaun C, it was a blast. Atmospheric up to a point, gritty, yet allowing for a modicum of larger-than-life action. I played John "Spider" Smith, and enjoyed myself immensely. It had all the essentials. Violence, mystery, and atmosphere. Erm… I watch too many horror and action movies, leave me alone.

Overall, it was a great start to the con. It woke me up and had me slightly buzzing.

At Night's End: Second session, second game. Also not pre-registered for it, but my session of The Price of Freedom was cancelled (because I was the only player) and they were looking for players. So I joined. An absolutely fan-freaking-tastic Seven Seas game by Fi McC, I enjoyed it thoroughly, because it combined my love for multi-forms, with my love for swashbuckling. And, as I continued to blather on about for the next day and a half, I got to jump on a table. Actually jump on a table. I like jumping on tables, is this a problem?

Dusk: By Aaron F, this game was a total mindf--- for me both as a player and as a character. I can't explain the events, except that I tried to change reality according to dream rules (hey, I thought it was a dream). Had enormous fun, except for the colonic irrigations. I blame Mik.

The Price of Freedom: Final session of Sunday, I rejoined the Price of Freedom, a D:tF (Demon: The Fallen) game by Lilli L that I'd missed session 2. This reconfirmed my love for Demon, and was a lot of fun. I played Stuart, a black ex-muso, and proceeded to discover all sorts of interesting things. And walk off on the party repeatedly. Great game, and my team managed to play without killing each-other, something all the previous Conquest teams hadn't. We must of done something right, as we got awarded Best Team. *shrugs*

Sleep then called. Pesky sleep.

Still not king...

Warning. Monday has an enormous amount of anecdotes, because its 3am, and I'm not editing this post anymore. Bah.
Monday

Saving Grace: My first, and only session Monday, I was playing with Renee, Mark Spain, Nikki Roberts and Nigel. This game is sort of tied for my favourite of the con, partly because it was fun, and partly because I knew Mark, recognised Nikki and Nigel from Arc Theatre Games (Yes, I'm Benjy the Wonderdog. Just... drop it.) and had vague memories of seeing Renee behind desks and at the after-Arc drinks.

Anyway, Saving Grace involved us playing actors (we were given a basic outline of who we were and then chose actual character for the moving, start rping as both Actors, and characters, where we created a film with a large influence of John Woo's older, more pathos inspired movies, but with Italian mafia members, rather than the typical Kung Fu movie. Really enjoyed playing with this group, had a blast. Especially catching up with Mark again.

That was it, so I spent time in both Saving Grace and The Price of Freedom during the final session. Admittedly I only spent about 10 minutes in that session of Saving Grace; I walked out after that with a headache, because they were just… I don’t know what they were doing, but you can ask [info]mousebane because that was the game he played.

Award presentation: It was an awards presentation; in other words, vaguely tedious. But otherwise not too bad. The fact that people I knew from outside the Con were winning awards was kinda cool. As was the fact that I was part of two Best Teams.

Highlights

Jumping on that table in At Night's End

The look on the GM's face when I cashed in all 10+ of my star power chips towards the end of Saving Grace.

Catching up with Mark, meeting Renee, Nigel and Nikki.

Not being recognised (other than by Nikki) as Benjy the Wonderdog.

At Nights End and Saving Grace, both in general.

I'm done.

And that was my second con. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go back to writing my three games for Arc. /plug>

As one of the people entirely likely to shout "anecdote" at prizegivings, anecdote all you like, anywhere else. Prizegiving is tiresome and slow enough without every single writer taking ten minutes each. We'd be there to midnight, if we allowed anecdotes at prizegivings. That wouldn't be acceptable to anybody. Still, mostly people seem to have got the idea that it's not okay to waffle on forever up there, so there's not too much shouting of anecdote these days.

Oh, also, at least four of the people you've mentioned are LJ enabled... [info]teknohippi, [info]kitling, [info]nigelw, [info]nikkicat13.

As for Rememberance... Shaun really does do SLA Industries brilliantly. I had a ball playtesting and GMing it.

Anecdotes outside of prizegiving are great :)

Hiding the longer anecdotes behind LJ-cuts is even better :P

Great to hear more enthusiasm about the con, even though I'm kicking myself for not playing in most of the games. The 'flu cut my weekend down to a brief stint moving tables around on the Thursday night, and a quick session of Dusk (which rocked) at the end of the weekend. Next time, for sure...

Swinging from the rafters

Glad you enjoyed the games - Stay tune for more exciting 7th Sea action at other Cons - Next on the list is a game at Unicon. Posible prelude to next freeform at Arc.
